From Prog 610:
Behind the locked doors of the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic lie scenes of frantic activity. Tharg’s droids process the hundreds of pages of original artwork produced by the art robots. Each page is computer coded to ensure it reaches the prog that requires it. The system works at top speed, 24 hours a day. Nothing can go wrong, the Mighty One has decreed so. Except… on earth strange laws apply that are found nowhere else in the Galaxy. Like the one known as Murphy’s Law, which states that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.
For example, take this episode of the classic Judge Dredd story. City of the Damned, first seen in Prog 404 in February 1985. It was written and drown in the normal way and then delivered to Tharg’s Command Module where it was fed into the system - and vanished) No sign of it could be found. As the dreaded hour of deadline approached panic spread and the wroth o( the Mighty Tharg could befelt everywhere. At the last moment Steve Dillon, art droid on the story, bravely stepped forward and offered to draw the missing pages again, from memory. This he did in record time and a disaster of Zragian proportions was narrowly averted. Some time later a humble service droid discovered the missing pages behind some obsolete databanks. For probably the only time in 2000 AD’s long history two versions of the same pages were in existence. Now, Tharg has decided to share this unique event with his loyal Earthlets. Over the next four pages you will see, on the left of the page, the published version (as seen in Prog 404) and on the right the original lost page. Only the centrespread escaped the incident. Student art droids can learn from the subtle changes Steve Dillon has made to some picture frames, others can enjoy again a piece of classic Judge Dredd thrill-power. One thing is for sure, you’ll never see the like of this again!
